Artist Story: Elara Voss’s artistic journey began in a small village in the south of France, where she grew up surrounded by rolling lavender fields and the muted hues of Provençal countryside cottages. Her childhood was spent sketching at dawn, capturing the way sunlight filtered through olive trees and cast soft, diffused shadows on the terracotta soil. At 18, she moved to Barcelona to study fine arts, where she fell in love with the bold textures of Catalan modernism and the subtle color harmonies of Mediterranean art.A pivotal moment came during a backpacking trip through the American Southwest in her mid-20s. The vast, arid landscapes—red rock canyons, golden deserts, and the soft gradient of the sky at dusk—reawakened her connection to earthy tones. She realized that her true calling was to blend the tranquility of Provençal landscapes with the raw texture of the American West, creating abstract works that evoke both calm and wonder. For over a decade, she has refined this unique style, working from her studio in Portland, Oregon, where she draws inspiration from the Pacific Northwest’s misty forests and rugged coastlines.
